Mediation is a voluntary and confidential process for resolving conflict that upholds the dignity of each individual. Two neutral mediators guide those in conflict through a process of listening and hearing, clearly identifying issues, exploring options, and coming to a solution that is acceptable to all parties. The parties each keep for themselves the power to create a solution. Mediators at our Center are trained according to the standards set by the Supreme Court of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Mediators are required to complete in-service and specialized training courses and be re-certified every 2 years. We assign 2 mediators to each case. We often choose mediators for specific cases based on their expertise in certain fields. Our mediators have professional experience in areas such as law, social work, education, counseling, real estate, business, and the ministry. Mediation costs a fraction of what traditional litigation in the courts does and can be completed in less time. Mediation develops and preserves communications between parties that will continue to have a relationship. It is especially effective in developing positive co-parenting skills. Mediation gives all parties a chance to be heard in a neutral environment. |
