Policing Mediation Program
The Albemarle County Police Department and
The Community Mediation Center have entered
into a partnership. As many as one thousand
police hours have been spent at a single
home.
This prevents police from being
available for other emergencies. Calls to
the police which involve perpetual
disturbances where no law has been broken
but, where there is a potential for
escalation, will now be referred to CMCC for
mediation. Complaints such as barking dogs,
boundary issues, and noise complaints will
all qualify for referral.
Mediation Training
CMCC offers classes, approved by the Supreme Court of Virginia, to train and certify mediators. Training is also appropriate for all those interested in improving their ability to handle conflict and solve problems in their personal or professional lives. CMCC also offers mentoring and continuing mediator education classes.
Classes and Workshops
Classes are offered on conflict management, and listening and communication skills. Workshops can also be designed for individual needs.
